Plan of Study

Individuals following a plan of study from the RALC must be self-directed in finding coursework and completing all requirements of the plan due to limited resources of the RALC.  The centers provide a number of benefits for provisionally licensed educators:

  • comprehensive transcript evaluations
  • updated lists of college/university approved courses to satisfy requirements
  • options to meet certain requirements through professional development
  • course approvals

RALC plans of study are valid for the same timeline as professional educators’ provisional licenses.  All requirements, including testing, should be completed by the expiration date of the provisional license.

Tab/Accordion Items

Candidates may take the necessary coursework for completion of the RALC plan of study at a variety of colleges and universities. The RALC website contains a list of approved courses to assist you in locating classes needed to fulfill your plan of study.  These courses are approved for employed teachers who have a current plan of study on file with the RALCs. Individuals with an expired or no plan of study should not take these courses and assume they will count.

Some plan of study competencies may require courses be taken at a 4-year college or university with an approved teacher education program in your license area. Make note of these competencies and plan accordingly. Not all courses are offered each semester.

Prior written approval from your RALC Director must be obtained before substituting courses that are not listed on the RALC website. Use the RALC Course Approval Form.  Complete and e-mail the form along with the official course description to your RALC office for evaluation and consideration. Course approvals are not made verbally.

If you prefer to take a course not listed on this site, you must seek written approval from your RALC Director prior to enrollment. Verbal approvals will not be honored.
